"Measure twice, cut once. Or was it the other way around?"
Talk to an EngineerIt can take hundreds of commutator bars to make up one large DC motor. If each one is not exactly the right size, the tolerance stack-up can get out of control, causing the commutator to be too large or too small. The customer needed to upgrade their existing system to: 1) work (it was broken), 2) be easier to set up and read, and 3) store their data for future analysis. Invent Automation listened to their operators' needs and rebuilt the system from the ground up. They implemented new controls, a better, more user-friendly, and intuitive screen with future expansion capabilities, including data logging. The result was a system that had been collecting dust now put back into production and making money again.
Old system was not functioning properly and too hard for the operator to setup
It’s very important to listen to the operator in these situations as they are ultimately the ones who will be singing your praises or talking poorly of you.
The bones of the metrology system were fine, but the controls had to be completely redone and some old touch probes integrated.
The calibration of the touch probes needed some tech support from Keyence, but they were there to help us solve the issue and get going.
